Round 21 saw the Knights earn their sixth home win of the season defeating Armadale 4-2. Anthony Campbell getting back to good form by bagging a double. While Stirling escaped a scare by defeating Mandurah City 3-2. Stirling's winner came in the 92nd minute thanks to Bobby Wilson.
The two teams last met back in Round 10 at Nash Field. Stirling won the match 2-1 with Daniel Trim on target for the Knights that day.
A win or draw to the Knights on Saturday will see them finish on top of the 2010 Premier League table and take home the Minor Premiership.
Round 22 marks another significant milestone in the history of the Western Knights Soccer Club. When the side steps out onto Macedonia Park it will be the club's 600th Premier League match.
The Knights have come a very long way and many hundreds of players have donned the red, white and blue since they first fielded a side in the then First Division in 1972.
The club's current time in the Premier League started in 1996 is now the longest in the history of the club. 2010 also marks the 28th season that the club has competed in the Western Australian top flight soccer.
Western Knights defender Stuart Ferguson has taken out the Mercantile Football League Division 1 Fairest & Best for 2010.
Ferguson combines his soccer commitments to the Western Knights on Saturdays with playing as a ruckman for the Midland Tigers in the Mercantile Football League on Sundays.
He has already reportedly been courted by several WAFL clubs include Perth & East Perth.
Considering he has only been in Australia for three to four years its a top effort.
Congratulations Stuart!

Three second half goals gave Perth a victory over Mandurah City. Dom De Felice and Andreas Oliveira got on the scoresheet for Perth.

Inglewood United have staged a second half comeback to draw 2-2 with Western Knights on Saturday in Round 16 of the Football West Premier League.
The Knights made a dream start to the match in the third minute. Great lead up work by Paul Van Dongen and Stuart Montgomery provided the opportunity for Daniel Trim to header the ball past Inglewood keeper, Oliver Taseski.
Dominating most of the play, the Knights continued to pepper the Inglewood defence with a number of goal opportunities but were unsuccessful.
Just before half time, Inglewood defender Daniel Stoitis handled the ball inside the Knights penalty area and the referee pointed immediately to the spot. Stuart Montgomery stepped up and made no mistake slotting the ball past Taseski.
Inglewood United introduced A-League midfielder, Adrian Caceres early in the second half and it seemed to change the momentum of the match.
Inglewood were suddenly dominating most of the play and in the 64th minute the drought was broken. Adrian Caceres took a free kick outside the penalty area curling the ball over the Knights defence and past Knights keeper, Frazer Siddall.
Caceres was again involved in the equaliser for Inglewood taking a corner which found its way to Mladen Kovacevic who slotted the ball from close range.
Both teams finished the match with one point each. For the Knights, they now sit in second position on the league ladder two points behind Stirling Lions. While the point for Inglewood puts them just out of the relegation zone.

Western Knights are back at Nash Field this Saturday when they take on Inglewood United in Round 16 of the Football West Premier League.
Both sides are on the opposite ends of the league table. Western Knights are looking to maintain their position on top and Inglewood United will take any points they can get as they are in contention for the relegation position at the foot of the table.
David Annall, Daniel Micevski and Paul Van Dongen are all expected to be fully fit and will be handy inclusions to the Knights line up.
Inglewood United will be buoyed by the mid week signing of Wellington Phoenix midfielder, Adrian Caceres. He will add more experience to the youthful side and assist Inglewood in maintaining a spot in the Premier League for 2011.
The Knights last competitive match was a fortnight ago away to ECU Joondalup. It was a bleak day for the Knights going down 2-1 and losing Anthony Campbell to a red card. Daniel Micevski restored some pride back into the result after slotting home a stunning free kick from outside the penalty area.
Inglewood United are coming off a 2-0 victory over Mandurah City. Ryan Clarke and Rory Grant found themselves on the scoresheet.
Both sides last met back in Round 4 at 6PR Stadium, Western Knights overran Inglewood 5-1. Knights leading goalscorer, Stuart Montgomery bagged a double while Paul Van Dongen, Dave Micevski and Mario Marcinko were also all on target for the Knights that day.

Western Knights have recorded their fourth loss of the season going down to ECU Joondalup 2-1 on Saturday in Round 15 of the Football West Premier League.
ECU Joondalup made a good start within the first two minutes with Dale McCullough pouncing on a loose ball in the Knights penalty area to volley the ball past Knights goalkeeper, Frazer Siddall.
Stuart Montgomery should have levelled for the Knights only a few minutes later when won the ball from a poor clearance by the ECU goalkeeper, Andy Petterson. Montgomery's header found itself wide of the goal.
David Micevski, David Price and Stuart Montgomery all had further long range efforts for the Knights within the first half but were all unsuccessful at their attempts. ECU Joondalup went into half time with a narrow lead.
Early in the second half, the Knights were reduced to 10 men after Anthony Campbell was given his marching orders by the referee. Campbell pushed ECU Joondalup's Dale McCullough in the face taking the bait after he was constently being harassed by the ECU Joondalup players.
Further long range efforts from David Price and Scott Bushby failed and it was turning out as a miserable day for the Knights.
The lead to ECU Joondalup was stretched further in the 83rd minute after Garin Collins pounced on another loose ball in the Knights defence after a free kick outside the penalty area was originally saved by Frazer Siddall.
Daniel Micevski managed to restore some respectability to the score line in the closing minutes of the match. Micevski chipped the ball over the ECU goalkeeper, Andy Petterson from a free kick outside the penalty area.
Western Knights remain on top of the league table only by goal difference with Stirling Lions now in second position on the same points as the Knights after Round 15.

Western Knights moved to the top of the league table after defeating Floreat Athena 1-0 in Round 14 of the 2010 Football West Premier League at Nash Field on Saturday.
Floreat started with the match with the more momentum. Former Knight, Branimir Mikulic close range effort around the five minute mark of the first half was well saved by Knights goalkeeper, Frazer Siddall.
Stuart Montgomery or Paul Van Dongen could have given the Knights the lead but both failed to capitalise on two great chances at goal.
The scores remained deadlock at half-time. This changed early into the second half, David Micevski won a corner for the Knights. Stuart Ferguson was in the right position to hammer the ball in from close range giving the Knights the lead.
Both sides continued to provided both opportunities in attack. Knights could have extended their lead while Floreat had a number of chances to get back in the match.
The final few minutes was an anxious wait for the Knights supporters but in the end, one goal was enough for the Knights to take the win. While Floreat are still searching for their first ever win over the Knights at Nash Field.

Trim managed to get around the last Sorrento defender and smash it into the back of the net past the Sorrento goalkeeper, Curtis Aspden.
Second half provided enough opportunities for both the Knights to capitalise on their lead and for Sorrento to get back into the match but it wasn't to be.
Daniel Trim's strike in first half was enough for the Knights to take home the win and the three points at the final whistle.

Ian McMurray put one Perth hand on the trophy when he opened the scoring early in the second half with Onoforo sealing the win after 72 minutes. “It was a great all-round team performance from us today,” said Onoforo, clearly delighted with his teams performance. “We spoke about it in the week, about being focused and every player, including the subs, contributed to a great victory for the club today.”
The bumper crowd of 1,720 had hardly time to settle into their seats when the Knights threatened for the first time through Anthony Campbell whose cross-shot from the right drifted wide of the post. Perth weren’t to be outdone and four minutes later a crisp first time shot by Matt Danskin brought a good low save out of Frazer Siddall. There was no let up in the tempo with the two teams trading attacks in search of an opening goal. On the quarter hour Andy Bourakis’ long-range attempt was held by the Knights custodian, the ball was quickly spirited to the opposite end where Campbell flashed a header wide from Barry Devlin’s cross.
Perth had the benefit of a swirling breeze for the first half and in the 30th minute Bourakis’ 25-metres free-kick was caught by the wind, forcing Siddall to back pedal and tip the ball on to the crossbar at the last moment. Five minutes later Siddall again came to his sides rescue, saving well from Danskin’s long-range shot. At the other end, Perth youngster Luke Martino had to be alert to punch clear a David Micevski in-swinging corner. But it was Perth who ended the half on top with another Bourakis’ free-kick tipped over by Siddall, then minutes later Danskin’s shot from the right whistled narrowly the wrong side of the upright.
The second half was given a crackerjack start with Dom De Felice crashing the ball into the base of the post with Siddall well beaten, and soon after Greg Sharland’s first time strike whizzed just wide. The Knights should have taken a 53rd minute lead through Devlin but after driving inside the 18-yard box the midfielder blazed high from 10-metres. It was a costly miss as, three minutes later, Bourakis’ superbly released Onoforo whose low centre from the by-line was rammed into the net at close-range by McMurray. Controversy reigned soon after when Stuart Ferguson’s header was prevented from entering the net by De Felice, despite Knights’ claims the Perth midfielder was over the line.
With the Knights committing players forward they were always running the risk of being caught out at the back. And that’s exactly what happened on 72 minutes when Sharland’s terrific diagonal long ball found Onoforo, who expertly skipped around Ivan Zuvela before angling his low shot beyond Siddall’s reach to double Perth’s lead. Campbell and Danskin were fortunate to remain on the park following a heated clash that sparked an ugly melee, however, referee Craig Cheeseman was quick to defuse the situation. Craig Simpson had a header clear off the line by Zuvela as Perth attempted to add a third to their tally
The Knights weren’t ready to throw in the towel by any means and bombarded their opponents’ goal throughout the closing stages. Marco Warmt-Murray’s low shot was well saved by Martino, then David Annall should have done better that lift over the bar from 8-metres. 82 minutes were on the clock when Daniel Micevski teed up brother David but the midfielder blazed disappointingly high from the edge of the box. David Micevski almost made amends soon after with a cracking volley from 15-metres which cannoned back off the bar, before the final chance of the day saw Martino deny Daniel Trim.
With the final whistle came the beginning of a long night of celebrations for Perth, whose coach Graham Normanton was over the moon with his team’s performance. “We played really well today. We were primed for it and ready to go,” he said. “The conditions were difficult, the wind caused us problems. But we played some good football and the goals really speak for themselves, both were well set up and well finished. We could have scored a couple more but to win 2-0 in a final - I’m delighted!”
Knights coach Paul Price was disappointed to have fallen at the last hurdle. “Perth was the better side on the day, we had some chances but it wasn’t our day,” said Price, who rued the decision not to award a goal for Ferguson’s second half header. “The boys were convinced the ball was over the line which would have made it 1-1. Those things can change matches, but to be honest we had a few players that didn’t perform particularly well today, and Perth deserved their win.”

Western Knights defeated Floreat Athena 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Nash Field to earn a spot in the 2009 Football West Premier League Grand Final.

The momentum of the match lifted for both sides but especially for the Knights in the second half. A free kick by Barry Devlin outside the box rattled the crossbar as well as the Floreat defence. Minutes later, Floreat's Branimir Mikulic perfectly rounded the Knights keeper but was denied the chance after being classed as offside.
A goal finally came in the 53rd minute for Knights. Dave Micevski made his way pass to Floreat players down the right, delivering a low range cross to Anthony Campbell. Campbell made no mistake from close range putting the ball into the back of the net and claiming his 20th goal of the season.
Dave Micevski and the Knights were not finished just yet and in the 76th minute. Micevski fired a shot from outside the box past the Floreat keeper to get the Knights a comfortable cashion late in the match.
Floreat weren't done with yet either. Branimir Mikulic managed to pull a goal back thanks to some good lead up work by Daniel Neiderberger. The last few minutes of the match seemed quite tension but the Knights defence held onto their strength.

Perth 2-0 Western Knights
Western Knights have gone down to Perth 2-0 in their final match of the 2009 Western Australian Premier League season at Dorrien Gardens on Saturday.
Both sides went into the match looking very different to what we have seen during the season. The Knights were without Barry Devlin, Okwy Diamondstar, Daniel Micevski and Anthony Campbell giving an opportunity to some of the club’s younger players like Francis Odong and Ryan Shackleton.
The opening minutes of the match looked quite promising for the Knights when a Duane Hepburn shot blasted from inside the box was well saved by Perth goalkeeper, Luke Martino.
Perth’s first opportunity of the match came in the 15th minute and it proved successful when David Onoforo’s shot was well executed past Knights goalkeeper, Frazer Siddall into the bottom left corner of the net giving Perth the lead.
Perth doubled their lead just a few minutes later when great work by midfielders Niall Shelley and Tristan Bekkouche provided Onoforo with another opportunity inside the box where he made no mistake grabbing his 14 goal of the season.
The Knights had two other opportunities just before the half time break to even up the contest. A Karl O’Reilly shot just went wide of the goal while a Duane Hepburn strike was well saved by the Perth goalkeeper, Luke Martino.
Second half brought more opportunities for the Knights to get back into the match but were unsuccessful on each occasion. Francis Odong was on hand to powerfully header an trademark Dave Micevski corner but was well saved by Martino while Daniel Francis missed up to three clear-cut chances from close range.
Perth take the final points for the 2009 season while both the Knights and Perth now head into the Top 5 Finals Series.

Western Knights 1-1 Sorrento
Goal: Daniel Trim
A late equaliser from Shaun Kilkelly has enabled Sorrento to salvage point in a 1-1 draw with Western Knights in Round 21 of the Western Australian Premier League at Nash Field on Saturday.
With the pre-match presentation of the league trophy to the Knights, they looked on top of Sorrento for most of the match, dominated possession and just couldn’t put it on the scoreboard.
The best chance for the Knights in the first half came from Irishman Karl O’Reilly who found himself through on goal but was denied a powerful shot on goal by Sorrento defender, Danny Cain who was there to make an important tackle. While the best chance for Sorrento came from a Paul Cunningham chip into the box which found striker, Todd Harnwell. Harnwell found himself one on one with the Knights goalkeeper, Frazer Siddall and was denied by a great save from Siddall.
The second half saw the Knights introduce Daniel Trim into the match as a replacement for the injured Marco Warmt-Murray. Trim’s experience immediately made an impact when his shot at goal from a Daniel Micevski cross was saved by the Sorrento keeper, Cyril Sharrock.
Another chance fell for the Knights in the 55th minute when a blunder by the Sorrento defence allowed Duane Hepburn to play the ball to Daniel Micevski. Micevski’s shot was blocked by Sharrock. Both Karl O’Reilly and Cormac Dawson also had unsuccessful shots at goal from rebounds after the initial shot by Daniel Micevski.
A goal finally arrived in the 62nd minute for the Knights, when a Daniel Micevski pass found an unmarked Daniel Trim who perfectly executed a low range header from less than 5 metres out to put it past the Sorrento goalkeeper and give the Knights the lead.
Just as the Knights were looking forward to the full points. A shot at goal from Sorrento midfielder, James Morgan in the 92nd minute was deflected and found its way to an unmarked Kilkelly who slotted the past Frazer Siddall.
The Knights will finish the home and away season on top of the ladder with only one more game to be played away to Perth at Dorrien Gardens on Saturday.

Mandurah 2-1 Western Knights
Goal: Anthony Campbell
Western Knights went down 2-1 to Mandurah City in Round 20 of the Western Australian Premier League at Peelwood Reserve in Halls Head on Saturday night.
Only two minutes into the match, Mandurah opened their account. Andy Brown’s raid down the right delivering a cross into the box for Jake Loreto. Loreto shot from five metres out went past Knights goalkeeper, Frazer Siddall.
Minutes later, Mandurah City were denied a second goal when Andy Brown made his way past Knights defender, Stuart Ferguson and provided another cross straight into the back post where Daniel Micevski was on hand to clear the ball.
The first opportunity for the Knights came in the 15th minute when David Micevski’s long range free kick made it’s way past Mandurah’s defensive wall only into the hands of Mandurah keeper, Phil Straker. Straker was on hand again to deny a follow-up shot by Daniel Micevski.
Straker was the hero again for Mandurah only minutes later when first David Micevski low range effort and Daniel Micevski’s effort from an Anthony Campbell cross were both denied by the Mandurah goalkeeper. Mandurah continued to look dangerous and in the 38th minute, a free kick by Stephen Payne was delivered into the box where Christian Paschkewitz’s header just went wide.
Another David Micevski free kick for the Knights was played into the box going past all the players besides Knights midfielder, Marco Warmt-Murray. Warmt-Murray’s shot was blocked by the Mandurah goalkeeper, Straker. A late first half counter attack for Mandurah saw Rafael Insaurralde’s shot go straight into the crossbar from 10 metres out. The Knights went into the main break down by one goal.
Western Knights started the second half positively and were finally rewarded when a cross from the left by Marco Warmt-Murray was miskicked by Mandurah defender, Ryan Townsend. The ball found its way to Anthony Campbell near the back post who made not mistake in firing his 18th goal of the season past Phil Straker.
The game was still now alive for both sides, Mandurah didn’t think so. In the 73rd minute, Jake Loreto received the ball once again from Andy Brown. Loreto made his way through the Knights defence firing a shot past Knights goalkeeper, Frazer Siddall giving Mandurah the lead again.
The Knights didn’t give up when Anthony Campbell was given the room in the Knights midfield to unleash a long range shot that went wide of the goal. Towards the final minutes of the match, Frazer Siddall denied Mandurah’s Andy Brown from adding a third goal for Mandurah and Campbell’s last minute cross from the right for the Knights gave Marco Warmt-Murray a great opportunity but he lifted high at a close range effort
Despite the loss to Mandurah and with the aid of Sorrento defeating Perth on the same weekend, the Western Knights cannot be overtaken in first position and have been crowded the 2009 Minor Premiers with two regular season matches to go.

A 90th minute strike by Stanford 'Duane' Hepburn has sealed a 3-1 victory for the Western Knights over Armadale in Round 19 of the Western Australian Premier League at Nash Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights started the match in the form they had finished last week's match against Swan United. In the 6th minute, the Knights won a corner. David Micevski's deep ball resulted in a tussle near the goal mouth, David Annall was there with a low range header to opening the scoring for the Knights.
The domination by the Knights continued and in the 33rd minute, midfielder Cormac Dawson smashed home a half volley from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 to the home side.
To Armadale's credit despite being down by two goals at the start of the second half, they put in the effort and dominated possession. Armadale's efforts were rewarded in 52nd minute when youngster Ryan Pearson's shot on the turn found the far corner of the goals.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 90th minute when Stanford Hepburn surged forward past the Armadale defence and fired his shot into the near corner to put the Knights a step closer to the Minor Premiership.

Western Knights have maintained their grip on top of the WA Premier League table after defeating Swan United 4-0 in Round 18 of the Western Australian Premier League at the Swan Italian Club on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights who had not won at Francis Street since the 2004 season went into the match with a full-strength line-up while Swan United went into the match undermanned and without key defender, Aaron Cole forcing the usual attacking minded, Damien Scali into defence.
Knights showed their dominance throughout the first half. Within the first ten minutes, striker Mario Marcinko was first to get on the scoreboard after making his way through the Swan defence on his own had a cracking shot at goal which sent the Swan goalkeeper, Corey Hugo the wrong way.
The opportunities kept coming for the Knights and twenty five minutes later the Swan defence was punished once again. Stuart Ferguson’s closer range header rebounded off the crossbar and into the feet of Cormac Dawson who slotted the ball into the back of the net to give the Knights a two goal break at half-time.
Second half began exactly how the first half finished, the Knights continually exposing the weak defence of Swan United. Barry Devlin had a number of chances for the Knights that either just went wide or hit the post.
Swan defender brought down Knights playmaker, Dave Micevski just outside the box about twenty five yards out. Micevski stepped up to take the free kick and made no mistake from distance for the second week in a row. The Swan goalkeeper got his finger tips onto the ball but it went far to wide for him to save giving the Knights a third goal.
Minutes later, up the other end of the field, Swan had a chance to steal a goal back. A Swan striker was brought down in the penalty box and the referee pointed to the spot. Damien Scali stepped up to take the penalty for Swan opposed to the Knights goalkeeper, Frazer Siddall. Scali struck the ball to the left and it hit the post. Siddall was there to collect the rebound. Maybe the scoreline could have been different if Swan had put this penalty away.
Englishman Anthony Campbell put the icing on the cake for the Knights in the 80th minute. His thunderbolt volley strike from thirty yards out sending the Swan goalkeeper, Hugo the wrong way.
Western Knights now have fifteen wins from eighteen starts and remain in first position with Perth still behind at least a game in second position.

Western Knights have recorded their fourteenth victory of the season after defeating cellar dwellers, Canning City 2-1 in Round 17 of the Western Australian Premier League at John Connell Reserve on Saturday afternoon.
The first half was a very sloppy performance by the Knights with only decent opportunity coming in the 5th minute when midfielder, Barry Devlin’s attempt at goal hit the post. Canning’s credit they were playing for survival in the Premier League and totally dominated the first half.
Canning City midfielder, Simon Versaico broke the deadlock in the 12th minute. Versaico found himself unmarked glancing his header into the back of the net past Knights keeper, Frazer Siddall. Canning went into the main break with the lead.
Second half rolled into action, Canning seemed like they were quite happy to stay with only the one goal lead and appeared to go very defensively with most of their players behind the ball. This gave the Knights the opportunity to gain more possession and have more chances at goal.
Canning made a defensive mistake in the 80th minute resulting in a free kick to the Knights about 25 yards outside the box. David Micevski stuck the ball with power and finesse past the Canning keeper, Kenny Ftynogiannis to give the Knights a vital equaliser.
When everyone thought the game was buried and the points were going to be shared between the teams, the Knights went for one more raid up forward around the 94th minute. Anthony Campbell managed to get a close range volley shot past the Canning goalkeeper giving the Knights full points.

Western Knights have bowed out of the 2009 Soccer Pools Cup after going down to Inglewood United 3-2 in the Semi Final at Dalmatinac Park on Saturday.
The Knights went into the match without the likes of David Annall and David Micevski in the starting eleven forcing coach Paul Price to reshuffle the Knights defence and midfield.
Inglewood started the match with more momentum and they were the first to get on scoreboard courtesy of midfielder, Dannie Richman. Only a few minutes later, a blunter by the Knights defence resulted in an own goal handing Inglewood another goal.
Despite a number of chances falling to the Knights forwards in the first half, they couldn’t capitalise and Inglewood went into the half-time break with the lead.
Early in the second half, Knights Irish import, Karl O’Reilly was introduced into the match in place of David Pepper. The move proved positive after O’Reilly was on hand to tap in an Anthony Campbell cross from the right in the 66th minute giving the Knights a glimmer of hope.
This hope was dashed ten minutes later when Inglewood midfielder, Aaron Colli found himself in a one on one situation with Knights goalkeeper, Frazer Siddall. Colli’s shot went past Siddall and into the back of the net giving Inglewood the match winner.
Karl O’Reilly good efforts in the second half were again rewarded when he scored a goal in the 85th minute. This somewhat restored some respectability to the scoreline in what was a grim day for the Knights.
Inglewood United will now meet Floreat Athena in the 2009 Soccer Pools Cup Final while the Western Knights can now concentrate on capturing the league minor premiership and the Top Five Finals Series.

Second half goals from David Micevski and Anthony Campbell secured the Western Knights a 2-0 victory over Inglewood United in Round 13 of the WA Premier League at Clipsal Stadium on Saturday.
It was fair to say that it was very ordinary first half of action by both the Knights and Inglewood. Western Knights couldn’t capitalise on a number of chances.
The best chance of the first half went to Anthony Campbell, with a cleaner path through to goal his resulting shot was well blocked by Inglewood goalkeeper, Oliver Taseski. Both sides went into the major break scoreless.
It was most of the same early in the second half for both sides, but the tided changed late in the match when the Knights gained the momentum.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 71st minute when a David Micevski low range shot finally found the back of the net after making its way through a packed penalty area. It was welcome relief for the travelling Western Knights supporters.
Western Knights striker, Anthony Campbell put the icing on the cake for the Knights in the 86th minute. Inglewood left to ponder whether the loss could hurt their push for a final top five position, while for the Knights their battle for first position with Perth continues.

A Mario Marcinko hat-trick within the opening nineteen minutes set up a 4-0 victory for Western Knights over South West Phoenix in the Quarter Finals of the Soccer Pools Cup on Saturday afternoon.
It took Marcinko only five minutes to open the scoring. Out of nowhere Marcinko blasted a left foot volley into the roof of the net from a tight angle.
On eighteen minutes the difference in quality between the Western Knights, a Premier League club and South West Phoenix, a First Division club seemed evident, when Marcinko extended the Knights lead to 2-0. A deep Daniel Micevski corner was met at the back post by Marcinko who simply headed the ball on it's way into the goals.
Just a minute later Marcinko's left foot shot on the turn completed the perfect hat-trick; right foot, header, left foot.
Western Knights extended their lead in the 52nd minute when Daniel Micevski set up brother David, who smashed home the fourth goal to catapult the Knights into the Cup Semi Finals.
First Team:
Western Knights 1 - 3 Perth SC
Goal: Mario Marcinko
Western Knights have gone down 3-1 to Perth SC in the highly anticipated top of the table clash in Round 11 of the WA Premier League.
Going into the match, Knights started with their three strikers namely Anthony Campbell, Duane Hepburn and Mario Marcinko in an attempt to play a more attacking game. Early in the first half it looked promising for the Knights having most of the possession and creating a number of chances but just couldn’t finish.
The turning point came in the 35th minute, when Knights defender David Annall was given a yellow card, allegedly manhandling Perth striker, Genaveo Human. Perth gained the momentum from that point, and in the 40th minute the Perth midfield provided a great through ball to striker, Genaveo Human. With only Knights defender, Okwy Diamondstar to beat, Human did that and his shot went past Knights goalkeeper, David Khuen to give Perth a lead going into the half time break.
The real blow came for the Knights in the first two minutes of the second half. Perth strikers, David Onoforo and Phil Arnold made the Knights pay for two defensive mistakes by scoring a further two goals within the space of a few minutes.
Mario Marcinko scored a late goal for the Knights in the 82nd minute but it was too little too late with the three points heading to Dorrien Gardens in Round 11.
With the Knights first loss in over two months they drop to outright second place on the ladder while Perth are now one game clear of the Knights at the top of the table.

The early season form of the Knights has been breathtaking, having won the last seven matches on the trot. Having built their season on their home form, they yet to drop a point at Nash Field. Last weekend Western Knights recorded a crucial away victory, defeating Sorrento 2-1 at Percy Doyle Reserve. Duane Hepburn was instrumental, scoring his first goal for the season, while David Micevski chipped in with a late first half goal. David Price is facing a race against time to recover from his knee injury to face his former club, Perth.
Since Perth lost almost three weeks ago to Floreat Athena, they have managed to refind their winning form, disposing of Sorrento and Cockburn without conceding a goal. Graham Normanton's side will be without the influential Todd Howarth who is travelling with Perth Glory to Adelaide while Antonio Naglieri is a doubtful starter. Perth have the best attacking record in the league, with pintsize striker, David Onoforo on 8 goals, Greg Sharland on 7 and Todd Howarth on 6.

In the 72nd minute Stuart Montgomery reduced the scoreline to 2-1. A header was flicked on to the former Knights player, who finished past keeper David Khuen.
With just minutes remaining Daniel Micevski was stretchered off with a knee injury, but even with a less man Knights were able to hold on for the 2-1 victory.
Knights coach Paul Price was thrilled to take away the 3 points. "The first half I thought we were superb. We bossed the game and the two lads up front caused them all sorts of problems. We scored two goals, and probably should have had three or four. That's as good as we played all season."
Price admitted his side had to dig deep in the second half and grind out the victory. "We came out in the second half and didn't play as well, we sat back a bit when I wanted them to go forward. To be fair to Sorrento, they had a go, they kept going forward and put us under a bit of pressure and eventually their pressure paid off and we were basically holding on at the end."

Right from the outset, the Knights forwards caused havoc for the Balcatta defence. With a number of chances either going wide or hitting the bar. Balcatta had two rare chances going forward in the first half with both Luke O’Neill and Bobby Klenkoski unsuccessful on each occasion.

David Micevski’s low rocket free kick managed to make its way through the Balcatta defence giving the Knights a 2-0 lead at half-time.
Balcatta came out blazing after half-time despite the score line. Ashley Rosindale pulled a goal back for Balcatta in the 50th minute, courtesy of a Damien Todorovic volley which rebounded off the bar.
Three minutes later, Balcatta received a controversial penalty after Balcatta midfielder, Andy O’Neill was allegedly brought down in the penalty box by Knights defender, Stuart Ferguson. Damien Todorovic stepped up to take the penalty but the Knights goalkeeper, Frazer Siddall was on hand to make a remarkable save to deny Balcatta an equaliser.

Western Knights are out to defend the cup when they take on First Division side, Rockingham City in the First Round of 2009 Soccer Pools Cup on Saturday.
Despite being knocked out of the Night Series Semi Finals to Floreat Athena, the Knights pre-season campaign has still proven to be quite successful and the side has surprised at lot of the knockers having already claimed a piece of silverware in 2009 after defeating Sorrento in the Charity Shield.
The Knights will look to experienced campaigners such as David Annall, the Micevski Brothers and Luka Jukic to lead the way.
While off-season signings, David Price, Anthony Campbell and Okwy Diamondstar will be out to impress and prove that they will be valuable additions to the Knights line-up in 2009.
Rockingham City are coming off a successful pre-season where they claimed the 2009 First Division Night Series Title over Wanneroo last weekend and will be looking to players such as Craig Olejnik, Richard Lacey and Craig McCreery. Meanwhile midfielder, Michael Vaz also makes a return to Nash Field to take on his former club.
It’s been a long time between drinks for both clubs, the Knights and Rockingham City were regarded as the Premier League’s relegation battlers in the early 1990’s and each club have gone their different directions since those days. The Knights went onto have their most successful years in the Premier League while Rockingham City have maintained a major presence in the First Division for most of that time.
This past history should bring an exciting battle between the two clubs this Saturday.

Western Knights 1 - 2 Floreat Athena
Goal: Barry Devlin
Western Knights unbeaten season came to an abupt end on Friday evening, losing 2-1 to Floreat Athena in the Night Series Semi Finals.
Knights started the better side and good chances were squandered in the first half by David Micevski and Barry Devlin.
Four minutes before the interval Athena took the lead. James Isaia's long ball found David Foster who slotted the ball around the advancing Frazer Siddall and into the back of the net.
Knights also had their chances in the second half, with David Price's long range shot hitting the bar and Stuart Ferguson's header narrowly missing.
On 76 minutes Athena extended their lead when Scott set up Foster across the box who finished past Siddall.
Knights got a goal back in the 89th minute, when Daniel Micevski cut inside from the right and his square ball was clinically put away by Barry Devlin.
In the final few minutes Siddall was unlucky to get red carded while Knights pushed forward in hope of an equaliser.
But it was little to late for the Knights, as Athena held on for a Night Series Finals berth.
Knights coach Paul Price was left pondering what might have been if they put away their chances. “I thought we had better periods of play and played more like the home side tonight,” said Paul. “But towards the end of the first half we were having a few a problems at the back and we went behind just before half-time. Credit to the boy who scored it - it was a difficult chance and he finished it well. We were just unable to get that breakthrough. David Price hit the post and Stuart Ferguson came close with that header that went across the goal. I thought he was exceptional tonight, probably our best player.”
Western Knights 4 - 1 Sorrento
Goals: Daniel Micevski (2), Mario Marcinko (2)
Western Knights have claimed their first piece of silverware for the 2009 season, defeating Sorrento 4-1 in the Charity Shield at Members Equity on Saturday afternoon.
Man of the match Daniel Micevski and Mario Marcinko scored two each for the Knights.
Just two minutes into the match Sorrento took an unexpected lead when they capitalised on a Knights defensive error and Montgomery slotted home underneath the approaching Frazer Siddall.
On 19 minutes parity was restored when Daniel Micevski received the ball on the wing and dribbled past four Sorrento defenders before unleashing a superb shot that found the far corner of the net.
The remainder of the first half was void of any clear cut chances and the scores remained locked at 1-1 at the break.
Knights took control of the match in the second half, and on 51 minutes had taken the lead. Anthony Campbell set up Mario Marcinko who slotted it into the bottom corner.
On 54 minutes Knights extended their lead to 3-1. David Price ran at the Sorrento defence before playing it to Daniel Micevski and on a tight angle in the box striked the ball hard into the roof of the net.

Western Knights 2 - 2 Swan I.C
Goals: Adam Francis, Michael De Souza
Western Knights have drawn 2-2 with Swan United in their final group match of the 2009 McInerney Ford Night Series at BGC Stadium on Friday night.
With the Knights already gaining a place in the 2009 Night Series Semi Finals after their victory over Sorrento last weekend, coach Paul Price took the opportunity to blood many of the club’s youngsters.
The first goal of the game came late in the first half from an Adam Francis driving shot just outside the box after being delivered the ball by midfielder, Luka Jukic. The Knights went into half-time with a 1-0 lead and full of confidence after totally dominating possession in the first half.
Swan were first to equalise in the second half after a handball by Knights defender, Nathan Grego in the penalty box with Swan striker, Matthew Xerri making no mistake at the spot sending Knights keeper, Frazer Siddall the wrong way.
With the game still in any sides reach, the Knights hit back on a counter attack. David Price set up Luka Jukic for a shot at goal. The shot was denied by Swan goalkeeper, Chris Ramsay but Michael De Souza was on hand to put the ball in the net from the rebound.
Late in stoppage time, Swan midfielder Trent Wood found striker, Damian Scali on the right hand side of the box. Scali crossed the ball in and found Aaron Cole who put away the equalising goal.
The Knights claimed one point from the match and are now preparing themselves to take on Sorrento in the 2009 Charity Shield on Saturday afternoon.
This Friday Night, Western Knights take on Swan United in their final Group A match in the 2009 McInerney Ford Night Series at BGC Stadium (Dorrien Gardens).
The Knights have already qualified for the semifinals of the Night Series after a 2-0 victory over Sorrento last Friday night at Litis Stadium.
Both Stuart Ferguson and Daniel Trim will miss the clash against Swan United through suspension and work commitments respectively while David Annall remains in doubt after sustaining an ankle injury in last Friday’s match against Sorrento. Luka Jukic and Mario Marcinko are both almost certain to come back in the Knights side.
Swan United still remains pointless in the 2009 Night Series so far, technically they cannot make the finals but they will be still looking to restore some pride back in the side. They were defeated 2-0 by ECU Joondalup last weekend.
Experienced midfielder, Tom Shepheard is doubt for the match after limbing off with leg injury against ECU Joondalup and will be looking to players like Aaron Cole and Brendon Knox to get them over the line against the Western Knights.
